I remember this story fondly thanks to the made-for-TV motion picture entitled The Two Worlds of Jenny Logan starring Lindsay Wagner. I am pleased to see that the movie tracked the book nicely. So, if you loved the movie as I did as a child, you will like the book. This is a time travel romance. My favorite fantasy sub-genre. In relation to the book, the characters are not as deeply drawn, but maybe it was not meant to be. I am surprised that such light fare caught the eye of someone who could get this story made into a movie, but I'm glad it did. It is a story of a woman who found herself betrayed by her husband's extramarital affair. The betrayal affected her so deeply that she found herself having difficulty moving past the incident even though her husband has tried to make amends. In an effort to mend their marriage, the couple moves to a home in the country away from all the reminders of that painful event. That country home also has a tragic romantic past of which the only remaining tie to that past was a beautiful gown left behind in the attic. While the wife fixes up the house--a thin metaphor for fixing up her marriage--the wife finds the gown, tries it on and magically finds herself transported 70 years back in time where she meets the former owner of the house, a dashing young artist who was the main character in the tragedy. Torn between two lovers--one in the present and one in the past, Jenny must decide which one to be with and figure out how to avert the tragedy destined for her lover in the past. Excellent light reading on a rainy day.Tags : Second Sight [David Williams] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. I wanted to read this book for years, since seeing the movie based on it, "The Two Worlds of Jennie Logan" but it was out of print. So I was very excited to see it available on . It is a quick read and for those who have seen the movie, it is pretty true to it. It is kind of a romance novel but without a lot of silly sex scenes. Full disclosure I hate romance novels. Yet I enjoyed this. The storyline is intriguing. It is not particularly well written, with speculation by Jennie that just goes on and on and pulls the reader out of the book a bit. We GET it already that he might be dead if things do not go right. Still, I am glad I read it and can recommend it as a very light read.
I always loved the movie, with Lindsay Wagner, Two Worlds of Jenny Logan. I recently ordered the DVD from . The Book is pretty much in line with the movie. Order the DVD, its so mesmerizing ...I first saw it backed in the 70's, it was one of those made for TV. I finally found the DVD, I kept watching it over for 3 times. Great movie! This book is good reading , glad I found it!
This has been my favorite novel for many years, and I was thrilled to finally get a copy for myself.
Jennie and Michael Logan have moved outside New York to an old, elegant victorian mansion, in an effort to save their marriage after Michael's infidelity. Jennie discovers a drawing hidden in the attic ( once an artist's studio ) of a beautiful dress, and has a dressmaker make an exact duplicate for her. But whenever she wears it, strange things happen to her she seems to be transported back in time, where she encounters the artist who once lived in her house. It isn't long before she falls in love with David, the artist, but she learns a startling secret- David is going to be killed. Jennie becomes desperate to save him, and searches for clues in the present that can help her. But when she mistakenly confides in her husband about what has been happening to her, he naturally assumes she is losing her mind and insists she see a psychiatrist. She complies, but even though her doctor tells her that her "visions" are not real and only a way of getting back at Michael, Jennie still believes in her heart that what is happening to her IS real. Is she crazy, or can she really travel in time? And if it is real, can Jennie figure out a way to save the man she truly loves? The climax of the book is fast paced and nail biting. And the end is a twist, as well. If you like a good love story with a little mystery and time travel thrown in, read this book if you get a chance, it's really wonderful. By the way, there was indeed a made for television movie based on this book The Two Worlds of Jennie Logan. If you saw that movie and want to read the book, this is it!
I bought this book recently after years of intending to. Finally it was cheap enough, used, on . I read this book straight through and loved it. OK, maybe it's a little corny, but I couldn't put it down. I had seen the TV movie as a re-run in 1981 and really loved it. The movie stuck very close to the book, using exact dialog and so on. Some of the major characters (Elizabeth) were changed, "reconstructed" for the benefit of the storyline and so were some circumstances. For example Jennie rents a cabin to transfer from 1970 to 1900 and pawns some period jewelry from (clever!) to buy some clothes and things she needs while in 1900. The book has an actual reference to the movie "The Go-Between" and even the quote "The past is a foreign country- they do things differently there." BTW if you love this book and/or movie you might want to see Joseph Losey's The Go-Between (this is, if you can get it as a region 1 DVD.
What a great book! I had heard of the movie "The Two Worlds of Jennie Logan" with Lindsey Wagner but had never seen it. This is the book which the movie is based on. I really enjoyed this book. I admit I think the author could have fleshed out some of the characters a bit more, particularly David Reynolds, added more to the complete ambiance of the story but adding more period details, and make the book longer and just more 'in depth". However, maybe its the efficiency of this book that makes it so endearing. Its a quick, simple, straightforward read and a wonderful book to pass a few hours at the beach. The ending was wonderful. There is an interesting 'loophole' at the end of the book that remains unexplained, but it adds to the mystery of the book and the fates of time, destiny, and time travel. It was such a poignant ending, leaving you somewhat a tad sad in a bittersweet way, but with a huge smile on your face saying GOOD FOR YOU JENNIE! Wonderful ending.
